Gardner outlined why it’s so important to educate the population on how to invest sensibly.

“Right now in the UK based on current savings ratios, the average man will run out of money 10 years before he dies, and the average woman will run out of money 12 and a half years before she does.”

Covid has improved awareness around savings, Gardner added, because a lot of people have ‘accidentally’ saved money during lockdowns.

“It has improved but from a very low base,” he said.

“Do I think wealth managers and asset managers have a role to play at an industry level? Absolutely.

“It's in everyone's interest to make people feel more confident about making decisions about money.”
