Alan Custis, UK equity manager at Lazard, says he gets an insight into how the UK market is perceived through discussing it with his global equity colleagues. 

He says those colleagues look at areas like big oil companies and think they do not need to invest in them, not because of conditions in the UK economy, but because of the nature of those companies and the better opportunities from companies listed in other markets.

But he says that he feels this has created an opportunity lower down the market-cap scale. 

David Clark, equity fund manager at Saracen, says the fact that small and mid-cap stocks are placed in the same bucket as the large caps by international investors creates an opportunity as the world emerges from the pandemic.
